It’s not work like a dog…its act like a dog.  Why is it that people love dogs so much?  There are countless tales of personal injury and loss of life for humans, due the attempt of saving this wonderful animal from harm.  They create a bond as strong as steel for their human and have real communication.  How is it that an animal can wiggle its way into our lives, and yet you don’t even know your fellow humans’ name that lives next door?

I believe it’s because your neighbor acts like a human, and dogs wag their tales when they see you.  They roll on their backs and beg you to touch their tummy when you get close.  They always want to play catch even in the rain, and if you’re not in the mood…they understand, and are satisfied just to rest on your lap or be close to you.  They also will protect you from any perceived danger from the deadly newspaper boy.  In short, they act like dogs.

Maybe we should be truly excited when we meet other people; maybe we should make closer connections through touch.  A handshake is fine, but so is a touch to ones shoulder or back or a nibble on the ear. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist) We should play some games during the day with people.  These are friendly contests with awards and recognition to those who do well…even in the rain.  Joe Namath once said, “When you have confidence you have a lot of fun. And when you have fun, you can do amazing things”. We are people after all and we need to smile and laugh.
When we speak to someone in person your whole attention is directed to them completely and totally to truly understand the communication, feeling and all.  Finally everyone needs protection.  Everyone needs a team of counselors looking after them with the understanding that then you have the responsibility to pass it on too.

Dogs give of themselves first.  They don’t ask for anything in return but we give them an awful lot, not for what they do, but for who they are.  They are confident in their role the world.  We should be too.  So go out and excitedly meet your neighbor, role on your back and see if he rubs your tummy.  I’ll bet at the very least you’ll get a laugh and maybe a new friend.
